If you aren’t sure that the juicing lifestyle is for you, ask yourself if any of these statements are true for where you are in life right now:

  1. I need to lose weight to avoid or reverse serious health issues.I want to lose weight to feel and look better.
  2. I want to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
  3. I am concerned about the chemicals in food I feed my family.
  4. I am trying to stick to a vegetarian or raw foods diet.

If any of these statements could be applied to your life at this time, then juicing will help you get where you want to be. If you want to lose weight, drinking fresh juice will help in many ways. You will have more energy to get through your workouts.

You will feel fuller due to the high level of nutrients in the juice, which helps stop cravings and sensations of hunger. You will also be able to control the calories in your juice by leaving out the sugar that is often included in bottled juice.

If you are concerned with your impact on the environment, there is nothing better you could do then start juicing! You can use fresh vegetables and fruits to create completely natural juices and you won’t be littering the earth with all of those empty plastic bottles.

If you are trying to switch to a raw foods diet, vegetarian, or vegan diet, juicing will make it much easier to stick to this new way of life. Eating a ton of fresh vegetables may be difficult to do every day, but when you juice them up and consume them in delicious combination’s it is much easier.

Even parents are starting to turn to juicing as a way to combat the growing rate of childhood obesity. Store bought juices are part of the problem because children drink too much of them and the sugar content leads to weight gain and problems with blood sugar.

Fresh homemade juice without any extra sugar or preservatives is very healthy for children and ensures they get the nutrients they need to grow even if they hate vegetables!

Juice can be something that you buy at the store and think little about, or it can become something that you enjoy and benefit from every day. The choice is yours, but with all the benefits to juicing vegetables it is worth learning more about.

The Federal government has released a lot of information over the past several years about the link between eating fruits and vegetables and the reduced risk of developing coronary heart disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

One such study released by the U.S. National Institutes of Health has released 2009 determined that consuming five servings of fruits or vegetables every day lowers your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 12%.

Of course, the easiest way to get those five or more fruits and vegetables a day is to start juicing!

There is also a growing movement of cancer patients who are using juicing as an alternative therapy for their disease. Many claim to have completely cured their cancer just by juicing, with many consuming a diet more consistent with a raw food lifestyle.

How could juicing possible cure cancer? It is a realistic idea once you realize that the tough fiber walls in many vegetables prevent some of the powerful vitamins, nutrients and enzymes from getting into the body. A good fruit and vegetable juicer will break down those tough fiber walls so the nutrients in the juice are easily assimilated into the blood stream where they are distributed throughout the body. That’s when it has the most power to affect your overall health, whether it be fighting off cancer cells or boosting your metabolism and reducing your risk of heart disease.

Getting Started

Healthy juicing is a way to give your body the enzymes, antioxidants and other nutrients that it needs to function properly and fight off diseases and illnesses. Once you get started you will find that you don’t get minor sicknesses as often as you used to and that you have tons of energy that you were missing before.

No matter how you feel about yourself right now, things are going to change! Juicing can be the single factor that changes your life forever, but you have to do it correctly. If you go too fast too soon you are likely to get discouraged and give up, so take it slow. Start where you are right now and add juice to your daily routines and meals.

Juicing Equipment

Juicing does require the purchase of a good juicer, but there are so many on the market today that you will be able to find one within your budget no matter how low it may be right now. Look for a good centrifugal juicer if you want something economical, but springing for a masticating juicer that works well with leafy greens like wheat grass and spinach should be your ultimate goal.

Don’t think of this as a hard stop to your life as you know it now and an immediate start to do something new. It’s a fresh beginning that has the power to change your health and other aspects of your life s well, but you can’t let that overwhelm you. Think of it as making gradual process toward a healthier life and focus on how much better you feel with each step you take.

You can also purchase juicers that function as food processors as well. This makes them a better investment since you can make healthy frozen desserts, baby foods, and a variety of other products with the same machine you create your juice in. A juicer like the Omega 8006 juicer or a Green Star juicer.

So whatever you decide to do for yourself, please don’t delay getting started.

Juicing is a sure way to gain the health you want and need to stay strong and free of disease.

tribest food dehydratorIf you grow your own garden and are about to embark on a raw food diet or simply want to maintain as much nutritional value from your homegrown foods as possible then you might want to consider investing in a food dehydrator.

Preserving that excess garden produce means that you will save money on your winter grocery bills and provide healthy food for your family all winter long.

While home canned fruits and vegetables are certainly healthier than the store bought ones, they really can’t be considered raw and you do lose a lot of the vitamins and nutrients from the high temperatures needed for canning.

Dehydrating your food gives you the benefit of keeping those fruits and vegetables close to the raw state and preserving more of the nutritional value of your produce because dehydrators use low temperatures and fans to remove the water from the food while maintaining a raw state.

These foods can then be used in soups, stews, and casseroles, eaten as snacks, or used to top salads. In addition, these handy machines can be used to make your own healthy snacks such as Kale chips or healthy fruit roll ups. They are just one more way of living healthier.

Sun Dried Tomatoes

  • 1 pint of petite or cherry tomatoes cut in half

Place in dehydrator 6 – 10 hours depending on what temperature you put them on and how dry you would like them. I don’t like them crisp but more chewy.

I then put them in a jar of olive oil and use them on pasta, stir fry or just as is. They are sweet as can be.

In Part 1 of Going More Raw we talked about some of the misconceptions of what a raw diet lifestyle is and some very practical ideas about how you can to get healthy. It doesn’t’ have to be radically raw but more practically smart.

In this second part it is about more . At the end of this guide we will talk about writing down what you really want for your life in the future. You will be able to explore all of the things on this list as well as other things that you personally relate to a healthy life. This will give you an idea of what you should be striving for in the future.

Positive Changes

Rather than thinking of what you need to eliminate to get healthy, focus on adding in things that will make you healthier. These healthier choices will slowly push out the unhealthy foods that you are currently eating too much of. You are focusing on the positive rather than the negative.

By focusing on what you are giving yourself and the great changes you are experiencing in your life you will inspire and motivate yourself to continue. With time the changes become automatic lifestyle choices that you don’t have to think about. That is when real health sets in and your body comes to life.

Your Perspective on Raw Foods

How difficult it is to move toward raw foods will depend a lot on your mental perspective. If you think of it as giving up all of your favorite foods and sacrificing for health you will have to drag yourself kicking and screaming every step of the way.
Instead, think of it as a gradual process where you get a fresh start on your life. You can change the things you don’t like about your lifestyle and enhance the things you really love. You can even find new things that you love!

This is your chance to start clean. You have new hope for a better future. You are not losing anything because what you are gaining is so much more valuable.

How you think about the new lifestyle you are moving into will determine how successful you are at making the change.

What You Want Most

The best way to determine whether moving toward raw foods is a good idea for you is to ask yourself what you want most from life? Make a list of all the things you really want for yourself and then ask yourself how many of those things can be achieved or enhanced by the healthy lifestyle you want to adopt. This should show you all that you have to gain by making these changes.

You can also use this strategy when you have cravings for foods that aren’t so healthy. Do you really want it? If you do, have a small treat. If you don’t, find something healthier with a similar taste.

Keep this list of the things you want most and read it whenever you question your ability or desire to keep moving toward a healthier lifestyle. Remember that you aren’t doing this to deprive yourself but to create a new beginning where you can live the healthiest, happiest, and most fulfilling life possible.

Remember that the cultural idea of a raw food lifestyle is not accurate. It doesn’t have to be extreme and you don’t have to give up on all of the enjoyable things in life to stick with it long term. Keep it practical and make educated, slow changes that will naturally become new habits.

rawfood dietThere is a stigma against the raw food lifestyle in our society today. Many people believe it is synonymous for a super restrictive vegan lifestyle which forces you to give up all the foods you love. Very few people can follow that type of diet for long so it is considered extreme. The good news is living a raw food lifestyle doesn’t have to be overly restrictive and you don’t have to shun everything tasty and enjoyable.

Changing from an unhealthy diet full of high fat, processed foods can be very practical and enjoyable. When done in slow, calculated steps from someone who has done their research and educated themselves on what a raw food lifestyle really is, the change from unhealthy to raw food is very realistic and easy to follow long term.

You can live a full life and thoroughly enjoy yourself while following your own version of a raw food diet!

Understanding the Raw Food Lifestyle

The common misconception about a raw food lifestyle is that you can only eat raw fruits and vegetables. Cooking is not allowed and everything is incredibly bland, dry and tasteless. This is the extreme raw food lifestyle that some people are able to maintain, especially those who live this way for religious reasons. Fortunately, this isn’t the raw food lifestyle that the majority of people settle into today.
This isn’t the way it has to be for you!

A raw food diet simply means you eat foods that are completely natural and which have not been processed or treated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, hormones, and other unnatural and often extremely unhealthy substances. You fill up on nutrient-dense foods that give you life and energy rather than taking your life slowly over time.

There is a spectrum with a very unhealthy diet on one end and the extremely restrictive raw food or vegan lifestyle on the other end. Where you end up on this spectrum is up to you. Most people settle somewhere in the middle where they enjoy tons of raw foods on a regular basis along with whole grains and other foods that are lightly processed. They also enjoy their favorite unhealthy foods in small portions from time to time.

What a healthy lifestyle actually means will be different for everyone. It’s about finding what you are comfortable with and what makes you feel healthy, vivacious and alive.

What Healthy Really Means

The raw food lifestyle does center on your food choices, but there are many other aspects of a healthy life:

* Consistent Exercise
* Pure Water
* Detoxification
* Rest
* Spirituality

Those who are the most successful with a healthier way of eating tend to be those who are also striving to get healthy in some or all of these other areas.

Again, it’s not about making drastic changes overnight. In the part ll of Going More Raw we will look at some ways you can get moving towards a healthy lifestyle, what this will look like and how it can work for you.

We have many small appliances and kitchen gadgets in our store that are perfect for anyone considering the raw food diet. From Excalibur dehydrators, sprouters & growing kits, to a wide variety of twin gear juicers.
