If  you’re currently not eating a healthy diet, it can be difficult to start such a plan. However, healthy eating along with some exercise is very important for maintaining a good bodily function and goes a long way towards living a disease-free life. If you struggle with healthy eating, then you know that breaking unhealthy habits can be the most difficult part of the process. Therefore, if you truly want to live the best lifestyle possible, it is important to follow a few tips in order to start eating a more healthy diet.

A great first step when you want to start eating your way to a healthy life style is to rid your home of all temptations that will distract you from following better eating habits. Ideally it would be a wise course to keep junk foods and beverages out of your house so as not be tempted to snack during the day. If you’re worried about getting hungry, keep healthy snacks like carrot sticks, yogurt, fresh fruit, or whole-wheat crackers on hand. If you find that you just cannot bear to toss out the sweets, try keeping something tiny on hand, peppermints or barley sugar. Eating a few, (emphasis on few) of these won’t ruin your diet but also will give you that little sugary fix you rave.

Another great step to healthy eating, when you’re first starting the process, is to take a few moments to learn what foods are the healthiest for you and how they work within the body. To start eating healthily we must begin by thinking healthily. Most people understand that fruits, vegetables, and low-fat meats and dairy products are good for you, but few people understand why. The key is learning about nutrients. When you understand how specific nutrients work and why you need them, it becomes more reasonable for you to make healthier choices for your body. Knowledge really is power!

Preparation is a major key in commencing a new healthy diet. You must take into consideration your schedule for meals. If you often eat in a hurry at odd times of day, you probably more inclined to grab a rushed meal which will probably do more harm than good. So plan ahead! Instead of grabbing a fast food lunch on the go, take a bagged lunch to work, complete with a healthy wrap and some fresh fruit and vegetables. Remember not to forget your evening meal, a simple plan to have a meal ready before you get home would be perfect, but in our fast paced life style, sometimes this just can’t be done. One way to solve this problem is to plan out your evening meals for the week, on your days off. Perhaps just before you do your weekly shopping. Another warning: when going to the shops, do not venture their hungry because if you’re anything like me, one or two chocolate bars won’t hurt! That becomes the first break in your healthy eating.

Initially many will find it very difficult to make those necessary changes to healthier eating. Along with the difficulty of change, you may not feel well for a short period of time. Usually this is normal as your body is adjusting to your new and improved life style and is cleansing itself from the unhealthy toxins built up from poor eating habits. However if this feeling continues or you are worried a visit to your doctor would be the correct thing to do.

Start with baby steps. Even if you only replace one soda a day with a glass of water, you are really improving your calorie intake. If you eat fast food every day for lunch, try replacing that half of the time with better quality foods. When you start by taking small steps you aren’t cutting out all of the foods you love all at once. By taking your time to learn about your eating habits and slowly replacing them with better meals, by taking the time to learn and understand why you should be doing that and making the necessary changes in an orderly fashion, you will feel much better within yourself physically, mentally and emotionally and well on the road to becoming as healthy as you can be.

green power kempo juicerVegetable juicers are simply juicers that turn fresh vegetables and fruits into fresh and delicious tasting juice that have more vitamins and minerals than that juice you buy in the store with none of the additives or preservatives.

These juicers come in a variety of types and styles including centrifugal, masticating or single gear, and twin gear.

While all these juicers make fresh juice the  twin gear and masticating juicers give you more juice for the amount of fruit you use which overtime can save you a good deal of money especially if you are buying rather than growing your produce.

In addition, these types of vegetable juicers do a better job with leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and even wheat grass. Some can even be used to make fruit smoothies and homemade natural baby food.

However, these juicers also tend to be a bit more expensive though they are worth the additional money, because they deliver better tasting juice that stays fresh longer.

However, each person has one type of juicer they prefer and the important thing is choosing the one that you like the best and will use to the most often.

Excalibur food dehydratorWhat do beef jerky and fruit roll ups have in common? One thing, of course, is that they are both dehydrated food products that have a long shelf lives and are very easy and convenient to store at home and take with you on the go.

But they also share another thing in common – you can make them both at home yourself with a Excalibur food dehydrator.  In fact, you can use a home food dehydrator to make a number of different snacks and healthy foods.

So how do food dehydrator’s work?  You might be wondering why a person might need a food dehydrator in the first place. Can’t you simply leave the food on the counter to dry? Though the process of dehydrating food is relatively straightforward, simply leaving it out to dry won’t work.

Food dehydration involves taking anything later wore thin slices of the food to be tried, and placing it in a dry environment that is warm enough to keep bacteria from growing, but not so warm as to cook the food. It is also essential that the moisture coming off the food surface has somewhere to go.

This is why you usually can’t simply use your oven for food dehydration — even with the door of an door slightly ajar, it’s difficult for the food to dry properly.  Not to mention the fact that dehydrating food is sometimes a lengthy process, and you probably don’t want to tie up your oven for so long. In fact, sometimes dehydrating a batch of fruit can take 20 hours or more.

A benefits to you and your family are clear.  Rather than always smacking on processed and potentially unhealthy foods, you can eat the jerky or tried fruits and vegetables that you made yourself. Using dehydrated vegetables by adding them to your soups and stews can be a great way to increase the number of vitamin-rich foods in your diet.

Also, using a Excalibur food dehydrator is a great way to take advantage of sales at your grocery store for seasonal produce.  Whenever there’s a great sale on your favorite type of apple, you can buy any few pounds (or more) and make a large batch of dehydrated apple snacks.  This way you’ll be able to enjoy them long after the apples have gone out of season.

Storing dehydrated fruit and vegetables is easy. Simply place them in an airtight container, and they should last on your shelf for many months (or more).

Finally, if you have kids, a food dehydrator can be another great way to get them more and interested in the food they eat.  Studies have shown that the more kids understand about their food, and the more they are involved in preparing, the more likely they are to make healthy food choices into their adult years.

vegetable juicerDrinking fresh vegetable juice every day can be a great way to get more healthy vitamins into your diet.

When you’re able to make juice yourself at home at any time, you’ll never be without its healthful benefits.

Whether you already have a vegetable juicer, or are simply in the market for one, you’ll want to keep a list of your favorite recipes

Cucumber – Cucumbers are high in Vitamin K, and also contain Vitamins A and C.

Cucumber Juice Idea
:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 3 apples
  • Small piece of peeled ginger.

Ginger is believed to aid in digestion and may also act to relieve pain for some people.

Kale – Kale is a surprisingly healthy green leafy vegetable, very high in Vitamins A, C and K, and also contain respectable amounts of protein, Vitamin B6 and manganese.

Kale Juice Idea:

  • 1 cup kale
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 apple
  • ½ cup parsley (optional)

You may find that you want to increase or decrease the amount of apple in the recipe, depending on whether you prefer it sweeter, or more “vegetable-tasting.”

Carrots Carrots are exceptionally high in Vitamin A. (Just a single carrot has over 400% of the RDA for Vitamin A). They also contain a fair amount of potassium and Vitamin B6.

Carrot Juice Idea:

Carrots are perhaps the most versatile juicing vegetable there are. Carrots can be juiced together with fruits (carrots and oranges are great together), fruit or herb accents (plain carrot juice with just a little lemon juice, mint, or cayenne pepper are quite tasty) or any hearty green leafy vegetables. Experiment and find what works best for you!

CeleryCelery is high in Vitamin K, and also a good source of Vitamin B9 (Folate), Vitamin A and potassium. Celery is very low in calories, so it would be a good choice for someone who plans on drinking a lot of freshly made vegetable juice, but who is particularly concerned about their caloric intake.

Celery Juice Idea:

  • 3 sticks celery
  • 1 pear
  • 1 small piece of ginger

Again we have ginger supplementing the nutritional benefits of the juice. This particular recipe, in addition to the vitamin and mineral benefits (and the fiber from the pear), is thought to

Spinach – Spinach is one of those foods that people know is good for them, but that they probably don’t eat very often (or ever). Once you find a spinach recipe that you particularly enjoy, keep it handy so that you can make the juice often.

Spinach Juice Idea:

  • 1 bunch spinach
  • 1 apple
  • ½ lemon

Be sure to use large leaf spinach for your juicing recipes, and not baby spinach. Not only is it generally less expensive, it also yields more juice than baby spinach.

The best piece of advice is simply that you shouldn’t be afraid to experiment with different amounts of different vegetables in your juice recipes. You might come up with a recipe that you want to make every day!
